Student Services Counselor – Financial Assistance (24-96)

Francis Marion University  and the Financial Assistance office invite applications for a Student Services Counselor whose duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Counsel students regarding Financial Assistance.
  • Evaluates applications for student financial aid, processes documentation as it is received and performs manual analyses of need as necessary.
  • Conducts high school workshops on financial assistance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional guidelines concerning financial assistance.
  • Ensures accuracy of all student records.
  • Awards federal, state, and private grants, loans, and work programs within specified guidelines, ensuring updates are made to reflect issuance of aid.
  • Supports the daily operation of the Financial Assistance office.

FMU Requirements: strong written and oral communication skills; ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot solutions; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to interact confidently with the public and with colleagues from various offices.

FMU Preferences: previous work experience in higher education; previous work experience in a Financial Assistance office; an understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); knowledge of Federal and State Financial Aid policies; at least three years’ experience in data processing; experience with MS Office Suite; experience with Ellucian (Colleague) or similar student information system.  The successful candidate will discuss in their Letter of Interest how they meet the preferred requirements for this position.

Salary: $36,322

Normal Working Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday). Summer hours will vary.
