Craftsman – Painter (25-04)
Francis Marion University invites applications for a Craftsman – Painter who, under general supervision, spends approximately 90% of time performing duties that require a high degree of skill and technical competence. Approximately 10% of the time is spent performing additional duties as assigned. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for keeping the university facilities painted and in a high state of repair. Performs other skilled duties involved in the inspection, repair, and modification of buildings and equipment, procurement of tools, materials, and the scheduling and inspection of work.
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, and maintain a computer-based library/log of paint colors, textures, and finishes for all rooms in all campus facilities.
- Ensures proper preparation of surfaces to be painted is accomplished prior to painting.
- Accomplishes repairs to buildings including, but not limited to sheetrock repair and installation, floor and wall coverings, and masonry.
- Inspects work proposed to determine detailed requirements. Request tools, equipment, and materials needed. Proposes schedule to supervisor and follows through with customer feedback on job status.
- Trains, supervises, and assists other craftsmen in painting.
- Manages the repairs of building components and systems within assigned areas.
- Uses multiple tools in various heights and spaces while observing all safety measures.
- Making on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
- Must be reliable and deft as well as possess great attention to detail in completing assigned jobs.
State Requirements: A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
FM Preferences: High school diploma and four years of experience in related trades or crafts areas. Excellent knowledge of painting materials and how to select, mix and apply them. Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques. Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.) Good basic math and computer skills.
*A valid SC driver’s license required.
Salary: $32,686
State Classification: Trades Specialist IV (KC40)
Position Information: Band 4 Level 1
Normal Working Hours: 7:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. (Monday – Friday). Summer hours will vary.
