Assistant Professor of Chemistry (Inorganic/Physical Chemistry) (24-87)

Francis Marion University and the Department of Chemistry invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry with a background in inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in a liberal arts setting.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching general chemistry courses for chemistry majors and non-majors.
  • Teaching upper-level chemistry courses in inorganic chemistry and/or physical chemistry as needed.
  • Performing scholarly activities and maintaining an active research program that involves undergraduate researchers.
  • Participating in faculty governance by serving on department/university committees.
  • Providing academic advising for students during registration.
  • Conducting additional academic and professional services as needed by the department.

This position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track academic contract (August-May) with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer. Internal funding for travel, research, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.

FMU Requirements: An earned doctorate in chemistry or a related discipline from an accredited institution is strongly preferred. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed their Ph.D. by August 16, 2025. Some level of teaching experience is expected.

Start date: August 16, 2025
