Freedom to Read Event to be held Thursday
The Pee Dee Freedom to Read Rally will be held at the FMU Performing Arts Center’s Truist Amphitheatre on Thursday, October 10th from 4pm to 6pm in downtown Florence.
This event is aimed at giving the community a chance to speak out against book bans in South Carolina schools and libraries.
During the event, volunteer readers from the community will share selections from historically banned books written for children, young adults, and adult readers. All readings will include family-friendly passages, and readers will offer context about the censorship history of the books they are reading from. Information about book banning in South Carolina and about the history of select banned books will be provided to attendees.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the foyer area of the FMU Performing Arts Center.
