This course will look at ways in which comics can be analyzed and discussed similar to other, more conventional texts such as literature and film. We will also look at the cultural impact of comics in general, how comics have influenced film and other cultural forces (and vice versa), and how the combination of words and pictures functions as an effective and important tool of communication. Special attention will be paid to genres that have been significant in comics, like superheroes, science fiction, and autobiography.
