This course presents an in depth study of one of the first truly American art forms, Rock and Roll. Students will trace the social, political and cultural environments that led to the earliest iterations of the genre. Through analysis of stylistic characteristics students will connect the music of Muddy Waters to Led Zeppelin all the way through to the explosion of new wave, pop, hip hop and electronica.
