The Fred R. Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute

When participating in NPLI, non-profit leaders are given the unique opportunity to explore both cutting edge and time-tested strategies that will enhance numerous aspects of their organizations, whether large or small. Participants will hone their leadership skills as they form strong professional relationships with others from organizations from across South Carolina in a cohort setting.

The NPLI consists of 11 sessions held over six months, and they will include the following topics:

• Resource Management
• Comprehensive Fund-Raising
• Logic Modeling
• Performance Measurement and Assessment
• External Relations and Communication
• Legal Issues
• Budgetary and Financial Management
• Board Relations, Governance, and Human Resources
• Collaboration and Strategic Planning
• Public Policy Issues
• Operational Initiatives

Sessions are highly interactive and include open discussion and case study evaluation. They are led by recognized experts in their fields, including non-profit leaders, university faculty members, public officials, and even former NPLI graduates.

The Fred R. Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University is also sponsored by the Darla Moore Foundation.

The Local Government Leadership Institute

The LGLI provides a skill-building educational experience for new and potential executive-level managers in South Carolina local governments. The program prepares participants to affect change in their organizations, and ultimately to improve the communities in which they live.

LGLI is the result of a collaboration between practitioners and academic educators. The Institute is hosted at the Continuum in Lake City by Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston and Francis Marion University in collaboration with the Darla Moore Foundation and the South Carolina City/County Management Association (SCCCMA).

Over five sessions, held from October to April, selected participants will be exposed to instructional techniques and learning opportunities including expert presentations, case-studies, panel discussions and individual and small group assignments.

Topics include:

• Intergovernmental relations in South Carolina
• Budget, Finance, & Human Resource Management
• Planning, Economic Development, & Public Safety
• Governance, Leadership, & Politics.

The deadline to apply for the 2024-2025 LGLI is July 31, 2024.
