Institutional Review Board
The Francis Marion University Institutional Review Board (IRB) supervises the use of human subjects in all research conducted under the auspices of the University. All proposed research must be reviewed by the Board before any data is gathered. The IRB insures that the rights and welfare of human participants in research are protected.

CITI TRAININGS
New Users
If you are new to CITI Trainings, please follow these instructions:
- Right Click Human Subject Training – CITI Program button above to open in a new Tab or Window.
- Click the “Register” button in the top right corner.
- In “Select Your Organization Affiliation”, type Francis Marion University. (Do NOT register as an Independent Learner)
- Agree to Terms of Service/Privacy Policy and Affirm that you are a affiliate of FMU.
- Create your CITI Program Username and Password.
- Complete your information to create your account.
- When prompted, select the appropriate course for your role.
- If your role has a specific training listed under Question 1, complete it to fulfill your CITI Training requirement.
- If your role does not have a specific training listed under Question 1, complete the Social & Behavioral Research Investigators training or Biomedical Research Investigators, whichever most closely matches your research type.
- Complete all required modules and tests associated with the training.
- Upon completion you will receive a certificate via email. Save the certificate as a PDF and submit it in your IRB application.
Returning Users
If you already have a CITI Training account linked to FMU, please follow these instructions:
- Right Click Human Subject Training – CITI Program button above to open in a new Tab or Window.
- Click “Log In” button in the top right corner.
- Enter your CITI Program Username and Password.
- Under Institutional Courses, click “View Courses” button beside your Francis Marion University Affiliation.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Add a Course” under Learner Tools for Francis Marion University.
- When prompted, select the appropriate course for your role.
- If your role has a specific training listed under Question 1, complete it to fulfill your CITI Training requirement.
- If your role does not have a specific training listed under Question 1, complete the Social & Behavioral Research Investigators training or Biomedical Research Investigators, whichever most closely matches your research type.
- Complete all required modules and tests associated with the training.
- Upon completion you will receive a certificate via email. Save the certificate as a PDF and submit it in your IRB application.
