Assistant Professor of Psychology – Applied Behavior Analysis (24-84)

Francis Marion University and the Department of Psychology invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology specializing in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) with an emphasis in Behavior Analysis.
  • Board certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA).
  • Experience providing behavior analytic services and supports to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BCBA-D certification and experience supervising students in Applied Behavior Analysis in the context of providing services to individuals diagnosed with autism and related disorders.
  • Experience with assessment and treatment of challenging behaviors.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate Applied Behavior Analysis courses.
  • History of and interest in conducting and/or collaborating on behavior analytic research.

Reports to:  Chair of the Psychology Department

Start Date: August 16, 2025

This position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track academic contract (August-May) with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer. Internal funding for travel, research, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.

The successful applicant will teach undergraduate (face-to-face) and graduate courses (face-to-face and online) and support the continued development of ABA graduate training and supervision through FMU’s growing ABA Clinic in downtown Florence. They will have expertise in ABA, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a commitment to cultural diversity, and value working with individuals or groups from diverse communities, cultures, and backgrounds. They will also develop and sustain a line of research that contributes broadly to the scientific advancement of ABA and involves undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Psychology (comprised of 11 full-time faculty) has approximately 300 undergraduate majors; in addition to approximately 75 graduate students within three accredited/approved programs: Clinical/Counseling, School Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis. The PsyD program has a Rural Health & School Psychology focus, and the university recently added an interdisciplinary Autism Studies Major and Minor at the undergraduate level. FMU offers excellent clinical and research facilities at the Richardson Center for the Child, Carter Center for Health Sciences, and the Leatherman Medical Sciences Complex. In addition, the C. Edward Floyd Medical Consortium Building and Jean and Hugh K. Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion, both focused on integrated Behavioral Health education and care, are forthcoming in 2025.
